getting heavy

Several monitoring sessions, numerous scans and a consultant appointment later the diagnosis is that i’m tall so there’s more room in there for baby, it’s all over to one side and low down which is why the measurement may come up smaller than expected and essentially as long as everything is growing well and it’s all in the right place, there’s nothing wrong with a baby that’s on the small side!

And of course when I go to see the midwife this week she measures me over the biggest part (because that’s where the baby is) and the little blighter appears to have jumped 4 cm in one week! So it’s definitely growing and I mostly know this because people have started commenting on how ‘big’ i’ve got (including the woman who sells me the big issue and sees me every day on my way to work) whereas previously it was just nice comments about how ‘neat’ i was. And it is starting to feel like having a bowling ball permanently attached to me. It’s amazing how you can actually feel its weight and how heavy it’s become.

In other developments – I am seriously slowing down and quite enjoying the snail’s pace i’ve had to adopt. I got heartburn for the first time which is remarkably unpleasant and I regret ever feeling anything but pity when someone complains about it. Astonishing how it actually feels as though it’s burning your oesophagus. But consultation with several pregnant women later, I decide to try the chalky tablets before going onto the hardcore pink liquid and have had pretty good success. The internet also found me a list of ‘foods likely to irritate the hell out of you and cause you severe heartburn and best to stay away from them’ and ‘foods less likely to do so’, which i’ve been trying to stick to and then failed on when i scoffed a chocolate digestive just before bed!
